For some time, the State of Mississippi has seen a shortage of histotechnologists - members of the medical laboratory team who prepare tissue samples for analysis to diagnose disease and other abnormalities. A donation of about $200,000 worth of refurbished lab equipment to UMMC has been a real shot in the arm to the histotechnology program in the School of Health Related Professions.

The Office of Research hosted its annual Excellence in Research Awards Oct. 24 to recognize faculty members for their success in gaining outside funding. The 24 medallion recipients contributed to UMMC’s 314 grants and awards received during fiscal year 2018.

From HGTV celebrities to professional golfers, nationally recognized personalities visited Batson Children’s Hospital Tuesday. The special guests included Ben and Erin Napier, hosts of the Laurel-based show “Hometown,” and professional golfers Nicholas Lindheim, Scott Langley and David Lingmirth.
