Even the most groundbreaking discoveries in science can’t improve human health without proper clinical trials, Dr. Javed Butler told attendees Tuesday at the Department of Medicine Research Day. The annual event serves as a forum and celebration of current research across the department.

Because of her "can-do" spirit and her never-ending dedication to patients in rural areas of Mississippi, Dr. Carmen Cooper-Oguz has been named School of Health Related Professions Alumnus of the Year by the SHRP Alumni Board. The former wound care specialist now serves in an administrative role at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville.

After an employee or student finishes a surgical procedure, the required hospital scrubs they wore must be specially cleaned in line with UMMC guidelines. When that doesn’t happen, cleanliness could become compromised. On Tuesday, staff and students can bring their scrubs back to the Medical Center during Scrub Amnesty Day.

Tutu-clad dancers from the Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet wowed Batson Children’s Hospital patients, staff members and caregivers with performances and dance lessons Wednesday in the hospital lobby. The Madison-based company includes dancers from across the Jackson metro area.

Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
