When Pontotoc resident Audra Odom unexpectedly found herself unable to eat or drink without vomiting, life changed quickly. She lost 70 pounds and was too sick to prepare for the bar exam. After a new, minimally invasive procedure at UMMC, Odom is now able to do what most of us take for granted: enjoy a meal.

It’s easy to grab a burger and fries from the University Hospital cafeteria on a busy day, but it’s just as easy to pick up a Greek salad and grilled chicken that pack a punch on taste but leave empty calories behind. Morrison and the preventive medicine department are offering more healthy options and information on healthier eating.

To better engage the local community with UMMC’s research mission, the Medical Center will host town hall-style events where scientists can discuss their work. In honor of American Heart Month, the first forum will feature cardiovascular research.
