A year ago, UMMC employees took a survey that asked them to rate their workplace on an array of subjects, including respect, fair pay, patient safety and pride in their jobs. Seventy-six percent of employees weighed in, and their voices were heard. This summer, 81 percent of employees took the survey, and results show that although there’s work to be done, leadership has put into action a number of initiatives that are heightening engagement. |
| Lanier High School girls basketball team visited the School of Dentistry to receive cleanings, fluoride treatments, mouth guards and an introduction to dental hygiene as a career choice. This is the second year that the dental hygiene program has teamed up with the Lady Bulldogs to provide this service at no charge. |

A recent study coauthored by a UMMC surgeon and triathlete found a small yet undeniable risk of cardiac arrest and death during races, particularly among men over the age of 40. But don’t let that stop you from running, swimming and biking – exercise is a critical part of good health. | |
