An innovative partnership between UMMC and Mississippi State University aims to solve many of the state's social problems in children through screenings. The effort is funded through a three-year, $10.5 million federal grant.

Officials held a groundbreaking Tuesday for the Gertrude C. Ford Hope Lodge, a "home away from home" for patients who must travel to Jackson for cancer treatment. A project of the American Cancer Society, the lodge will include 32 private rooms and communal kitchens, dining and living areas.
