Melvia Sumrall kicked breast cancer in 2005, but a decade later finds herself facing her old nemesis. After coughing up blood in January, the Flowood resident called her physician, Dr. John Cross, assistant professor of medicine, who sees patients at the University of Mississippi Medical Center's Grants Ferry clinic. She soon found herself at UMMC's Cancer Institute, located at the Jackson Medical Mall.

In her nearly 11 years with the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Dr. Michelle Owens has focused on the well-being of women and babies, putting a spotlight on the health-care needs of some of the state's most underserved. Her tireless efforts have been noted by the Women's Foundation of Mississippi, an organization which recently named Owens as one of its Women of Vision 2015 honorees.

When students graduate from the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry, a national organization stands ready to watch out for their best interests and keep them abreast of policy issues that impact their profession.
