Biobank Mississippi

About this Study

This proposal defines the plans for creation of a new resource for future research that will be available to all investigators at University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and Mayo Clinic (Mayo) through this joint project. We propose to recruit and enroll 10,000 participants. Participants will provide a blood sample for DNA, cells, and serum/plasma, complete a health questionnaire, and allow access to historical and future medical record data.

18 years old
Both Male and Female

Inclusion Criteria

 2.0 Participant Enrollment

2.1 Inclusion Criteria:         

a)    Resident of the United States (to make it possible to conduct future subject follow-up using the National Death Index; specific details will be submitted for approval prior to actual linkage)

b)    Age 18 years or older

c)    Able to provide informed consent

d)    Has or obtains during enrollment a UMMC medical record number /UMMC ID

Exclusion Criteria

2.2   Exclusion Criteria:       

a)    Institutionalized (e.g., prison)

b)    Non-English speaker

c)    Under 18 years of age

2.3   Selection of Solicited Volunteers: Participants will primarily be selected from 4 clinics across UMMC main campus – Quick Care, Family Medicine (Lakeland), Internal Medicine (Lakeland), Rapid Care and UP Pavilion Clinics.

2.4   Unsolicited Volunteers: Participants will be allowed to consent in the Biobank as long as all inclusion/ exclusion criteria are met (section 2.1 above).

2.5   Signage: Signage to the recruitment desks and kiosk will read “Biobank Mississippi.”
