The Office of Interprofessional Simulation, Training, Assessment, Research and Safety (ISTARS) provides and manages ISTARS Simulation Foundations Instructor Online Course, a course developed for University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) faculty. ISTARS Simulation Foundations Instructor Online Course is an online, self-paced course that is offered through Canvas, UMMC's learning management system.
Simulation-based education (SBE) has become an integral part of the way students are educated across health curricula. Research has shown properly designed simulation experiences enhance clinical reasoning and transition into practice. Many healthcare educators lack the knowledge in simulation pedagogy and best practices; thus, minimizing opportunities for students to meet learning outcomes. This course will bridge this gap by providing education on best-practices and strategies for using simulation.
UMMC educators have limited time to attend live sessions and come from a variety of backgrounds. This format allows the instructor to meet their own learning gaps through individual assigned online modules. This online enduring material course is appropriate because it allows learners to engage with material on their own timeline and allows for individualized education plans.
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should better be able to:
Any clinical or nonclinical individuals from the hospital or community.
Free to University of Mississippi faculty and staff.
