The Office of Academic Support manages Writing Support Services, which is available at no charge to students currently enrolled in any school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Writing coaches are available to assist students with assigned coursework and papers. Writing coaches focus on individual needs and specific documents. They provide a collaborative, supportive, non-evaluative environment intended to help students improve their confidence and competence in writing. Writing coaches assist students by discussing structure, ideas, and clarity of assignments and by offering feedback on drafts of papers. Writing coaches do not proofread or edit papers, though students may be referred to proofreading services when appropriate. Writing coaches are unable to predict how assignments will be graded. The goal of Writing Support Services is to add value to the educational experience through writing critique and support.
Please schedule a meeting with a writing coach as early in the semester as possible, and do not wait until the last minute to schedule a meeting, as writing coach availability is not usually immediate. To prepare for your session with a writing coach, please bring copies of both the assignment instructions and a draft of the paper. Prepare questions about the draft paper’s problem areas.
Writing coaches are available to meet individually with students by appointment. To request writing support services, click the icon below:
