Biography
Tara S. Price, DNP, WHNP-BC, CNS, Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing has been a nurse for 30 years. While she took the road less traveled, from LPN in 1992 to DNP in 2022, every twist and turn has ignited her passion for nursing, patient care, and student success. Nursing experience includes chemical dependency, senior care, emergency nursing, pediatric nursing, and women’s health, although her passion is obstetric nursing. After a personal pregnancy experience in 2001, her path from emergency nursing took a major detour into caring for laboring women. In 2005 she achieved her MSN with a focus on Women’s Health as a Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist. Since then Dr. Price has practiced in the hospital setting as a hospitalist, in the private clinic sector, in school-based health clinics, and as a data collector in an ongoing research study. In 2019 she joined the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Nursing (SON) as an instructor. During her first year as faculty, she was recognized as a Norman C. Nelson Order member awarded to the institution’s "best of the best" faculty. Dr. Price has been very fortunate to receive numerous faculty DAISY awards in her four years at UMMC. The past year was a highlight year for Dr. Price as she was promoted to Assistant Professor, completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the UMMC SON, and was honored to be inducted as a member of the inaugural class to the UMMC Academy of Excellence in Education in 2022. In August of 2023, Dr. Price began living her dream as a resident of Oxford, MS and nursing faculty at the Oxford Instructional Site. While the Accelerated BSN program is a new adventure, it is one she is truly enjoying every step of the hike.
