To improve public safety communications and emergency medical capabilities in Mississippi's most rural areas, the University of Mississippi Medical Center developed the First Hands training program. The program trains first responders to manage emergency situations, using life-saving medical supplies and resources.
First Hands training was funded through the Rural Emergency Medical Communication Demonstration Project grant administered by CISA and the Department of Homeland Security.
NOTE: First Hands classes are currently very limited. New funding sources are being investigated to continue and improve this training.
