Scott Rodgers, MD

Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Scott Rodgers assumed his current role as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and chief academic officer on April 1, 2022.  He is responsible for the Office of Academic Affairs, which supports the academic mission for UMMC’s six health professions schools in Jackson, Mississippi.  Previously he served for over seven years as chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, a clinical department within UMMC’s School of Medicine. 

A native of Decatur, Georgia, Rodgers graduated from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and attended medical school at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee.  He completed residency training in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital, a combined program at Harvard Medical School.  He joined the faculty at the Vanderbilt School of Medicine in July 2000 and served as Vanderbilt’s associate dean for medical student affairs for nine years, before moving to UMMC and joining the faculty in December 2014.  He currently holds the rank of tenured professor.

Rodgers has published articles and presented nationally in four scholarly areas:  medical student career advising, medical student advisory colleges, medical student wellness programming, and LGBTQ health.  He is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and he has served as a leader in the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Group on Student Affairs. 

Rodgers and his husband Jon live in Jackson, Mississippi and enjoy occasional trips to Provincetown, Massachusetts, where they own a small “boathouse” home in the East End Gallery District.
