Chief Executive Officer, Children’s and Women’s Hospitals
Children’s of Mississippi’s chief executive officer, Guy Giesecke, joined the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2010 to lead the Medical Center’s pediatric arm. Since then, the state’s only children’s hospital has more than doubled its square footage and a network of outpatient specialty clinics around the state is bringing care closer to home for Mississippi’s children and families.
Giesecke, a native Texan, graduated from Abilene Christian University with a business administration degree before earning master’s degrees in health care administration and business from the University of Houston and, in 2015, a Doctor of Health Administration from UMMC’s School of Health Related Professions. In 2019, he was honored as SHRP Alumnus of the Year.
Starting with the opening of a pediatric outpatient specialty clinic in Tupelo in 2015, Children’s of Mississippi has been expanding its network of care, bringing specialists and subspecialists closer to patients.
The next year saw the launch of the $100 million Campaign for Children’s of Mississippi, the largest capital campaign in UMMC history, to help fund construction of a seven-story hospital expansion. The Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower was opened Nov. 2, 2020, transforming pediatric care in the state. The campaign topped its goal in 2022, raising $101.5 million.
Prior to coming to UMMC, Giesecke served as chief operating officer of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas from 2006 to 2010 and vice president of East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas, from 2003 to 2006. He is a graduate of Leadership Mississippi and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Giesecke and his wife, Kara, live in Madison and are the parents of three children.
